I am an assistant professor in the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California where I teach courses on the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, and innovation.  I am also the Research Director for the NSF I-Corps Hub West and LA I-Corps Node as well as the Director of the MINERVA Lab, a collaboration with the Viterbi School of Engineering. 

My research focuses on the financing of innovation. I estimate the impacts of federal funding and philanthropic grantmaking on research & development, small business, and entrepreneurship. I primarily use micro-level data and micro-econometric methodologies. I also examine issues around gender equity and diversity on innovation and the role of organizational structure on public good provision.​

I earned my PhD in Public Policy from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and my BA from Hendrix College.
